On Day 3 of my trip to the South West of the United Kingdom our afternoon was spent at The University of Bath. The city of Bath is a popular tourist destination and is a UNESCO World Heritage City especially known for its iconic Georgian architecture and numerous arts and cultural opportunities. London is easily accessible by a 90 minute train ride which is another plus especially for international students.

The university is a top ranked institution and students continue to be among the most satisfied in the UK. 30% of the 16,820 students (12,259 are undergraduates) come from outside of the UK and represent over 100 nationalities. As we traveled throughout England we heard about “employability” and we were informed at each “stop” about the ways in which students are trained and prepared for their careers. At Bath, we learned that almost all University of Bath degrees offer opportunities to combine academic study with work placement and approximately 60% of undergraduate students combine study with a work experience. A unique aspect of how they provide support to students to help them secure internships is that they have 4 placement offices in specific areas for students to get practical work experience while pursuing their undergraduate degrees. We heard from students and advising staff in Management, Humanities and Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Engineering and I was extremely impressed by what they have to offer.

Students interested in pursuing an undergraduate degree abroad in a culturally sophisticated city with easy access to London (and the rest of Great Britain) should consider The University of Bath.
